Silk & Culture experience

Benvenuti in Calabria. Arrival at Lamezia Terme airport and transfer to the hotel. Welcome drink. Rest of the day at your leisure. Dinner and overnight.

Buffet breakfast. In the morning you will depart to San Floro, a little village in the middle of green hills, famous for the silk production. We will vist the silk Museum inside a castle of the xv century, have a walk in the historical center and transfer to the pine forest where we will enjoy the natural trail loop. Here we will visit the silkworms breeding, we will discover the mystery that surrounds them in a silk cocoon and we will see the silk reeling. The vision of this process traps the attention of the visitor who is enchanted with the thread taking off from the cocoons. After this we will walk through the Mulberry orchard, the guided tour will end under the canopy of a majestic centuries-old pine with a tasting of local products from organic farming. In the afternoon we will transfer to Catanzaro for a guided tour of the places of the ancient european capital of silk. The tale of this extraordinary story will be enrich with a series of symbolic activities that aim to strengthen the value of experience. Return to Badolato and overnight.

Buffet breakfast. Today you will visit “Scolacium”, the archeological park with the ruins of the Ionian ancient town of “Magna Grecia” and “Roman Era”. Visit of the Magna Graecia Museum and the Oil Press Museum. Late in the morning we will head to the medieval town of Squillace, famous throughout Italy for its graffiti pottery. You’ll meet a local artist and see how the pottery is designed, then will have a chance to explore the town. For lunch, you’ll visit a local dairy farm for a picnic-style pranzo, complete with homemade bread, potatoes and peppers, local vegetables, fried fritters and obsviously cheese! Return to Badolato and overnight.

Buffet breakfast. In the morning you will enjoy a 3 hrs walking tour of Badolato, an old medieval village perched on a hill at 250 mt. above sea level. Visit of the Monastery of “S. Maria degliAngeli”, the Church of Santa Caterina, the Church of the “Immacolata”, and the Bell Tower. Short stop for a tasting of local products at a “catojo”, a typical local wine cellar. Relaxing time. In the afternoon, a visit of a vineyard and an olives grove up on the hills of Badolato. Dinner with wine and local food tasting. Return to Badolato and overnight.
